The Bodhisattva Kishitigarbha Vow Sutra Ceremony
Every year, during the month of August, together we recite the Bodhisattva Kishitigarbha Vow Sutra for those who have passed and those who are suffering. The Sutra is a dialogue between the Buddha and some of his disciples, including his mother Lady Maya, praising and evoking the indescribable merits of the Bodhisattva Kishitigarbha who, lifetime after lifetime, transforms himself/herself in order to save all beings from suffering.
Right now, with over 650,ooo people having died world-wide from Covid-19 in the past 6 months, and countless others suffering, the offering of this Sutra is vital. The Sutra recitation provides an opening to step right through our own small mindedness and to perceive the true teaching of the Buddha. If we can experience, in a single moment, our true nature then we too will be free from suffering, birth and death. As Dai E Zenji teaches, "and with the great wisdom of the Buddhas to awaken all beings to the Buddha Mind." In this way, our gratitude, for all the teachings we have received, is offered with and for all beings.
Please join us on Saturday, 15 August, from 9am to 12.30pm. If you are unable to participate but wish to include a loved one's name/s to be placed on our altar for the duration of the ceremony, please send them, and/or register your attendance, by email at firstname.lastname@example.org. It is also customary to make offerings of flowers, food, or fruit to be shared by all at the ceremony's conclusion.
We look forward to seeing you.
