About us:
Founded in 1989 by the late Zen Master Seung Sahn, internationally renowned Grand Master of the Kwan Um School of Zen, the Queensland Zen Centre (QZC) is an Ipswich-based group of practitioners dedicated to the practice of awakening. Zen Master Seung Sahn named the QZC Dae Kwang Sa, or Great Light Temple.
Since 1996 our Guiding Teacher, Zen Master Senshin, has overseen all aspects of our group’s training including the teaching of the meditation practices of sitting, walking, chanting, and kong-an study. In addition to weekly practice sessions, Zen Master Senshin leads regular retreats. During retreats, Zen Master Senshin offers dharma talks and individual interviews for those wishing to deepen in their understanding. Please see our schedule and retreat pages for more information.
The QZC is a non-profit religious organisation, which relies on the generosity of members and friends for support. Regular practitioners are encouraged to consider making a contribution towards costs and/or membership as an active way of supporting, while being supported by, the QZC.
Both new and experienced practitioners are welcome. Our information page provides information new students will need to know before attending a session for the first time. For all students new to QZC, additional information will be provided when you contact us.
We look forward to hearing from you.

"All over Australia, this slow and meticulous process of transmitting the Dharma is happening. And as for Bodhidharma, our work is set out before us. If we put down roots and the plant is carefully cultivated, it will flourish. The Dharma caretakers must cultivate the roots of Dharma by continuously clarifying and purifying their own minds. If we tend to our practice diligently, with sincere, honest and truthful efforts, the Dharma will flourish. This is what is on the line here." Zen Master Senshin Dharma Talk 4th June 2023 |
